ESA CCI+ Lakes is a multi-national consortium producing a dataset of thematic products focused on lakes, recognized as an essential climate variable (ECV) by the Global Climate Observing System (GCOS), and derived from satellite products. Version 2.0.2 of the dataset is currently available for download here: https://climate.esa.int/en/projects/lakes/data/
Phase 2 of the project was officially launched in July 2022 with H2O Geomatics continuing to improve the lake ice cover product and contributing to the development of a lake ice thickness product towards future releases of the dataset. Release of the next version of dataset is planned for September 2023 followed by the release of v3.0 in March 2025!
The next phase of the project will work towards addressing spatiotemporal gaps in the dataset, adding lake level and extent for more lakes, updating water colour time series, and providing more accessibility tools.
